I know, I know. The cartoons get a lot of the details wrong, added some cheesy music, and cut out some info and several characters. And let's not get started on the Wood Elves' appearance! Still, they were my first exposure to Tolkien's stories. I would never have heard of the books until perhaps much later in life without these films. So I still remember them fondly. Does anyone else enjoy them?
In all fairness, only the Bakshi project was going to be more than movie. So the cartoons didn't have time to explain everything. And the Rankin/Bass movies were targeted toward children, so adding the songs made sense.
Besides, how can you not love "Where There's a Whip, There's a Way"?
