Let's face it: The Silmarillion has never been -- and probably never will be -- as popular as The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Many people say it's hard to read. The language is dry and archaic. The book is a collection of stories rather than a single narrative.
Now I assume most people on this forum enjoy the Silmarillion. I certainly do: It changed the whole way I look at the world. But the arguments of the people who dislike it have merit. I didn't realize people hated it until I read some comments on another forum.
So what do you really think of the book? And what was your experience (if any) with other people who have read it?
